Mission Guyana - Oratory & Feast

Sister helps a child find the piñataIt is always considered a great blessing for an IVE community to be able to host an oratory. So we must give thanks to God who, according to His Divine Will, allowed an oratory to begin at St. Francis Xavier parish in Guyana, South America. This came as a special gift to the parish soon before it celebrated its patron saint's feast day.

Afterschool Oratory

The Oratory at St. Francis Xavier, called the Children of Mary Oratory, was started in October and is held during the week after school gets out. It provides the children from the parish, as well as the children from the surrounding areas, a great opportunity to pray, play, and study.

Sister reads to the children in the OratoryThe studying is especially important to this oratory of the poor education our children receive in the school of Guyana. So there is time set aside for activities to help them practice their reading and writing or they can work on their homework during this time. These  will also serve to help them improve their basic learning skills.

Thanks be to God, the children are taking advantage of this gift from God and are extremely excited about the oratory. Some will frequently show up at the sister's convent a half hour before it even begins. We ask that you pray for the Children of Mary Oratory and that our mother in heaven may watch over all her children here on earth.

Feast of St. Francis Xavier

The Mass on St. Francis Xavier's FeastOn December 5th, the parishioners of St. Francis Xavier's Parish came together to celebrate the feast day of their patron saint. Joining in the celebration were communities of other parishes that priests of the Institute look after. The day was begun with the Holy Mass and followed by a feast which included a fogon and a piñata for all the children.
