We recently began a new apostolate in our mission in the city of Charity, Guyana. For years now, our missionaries have been helping Teresa, a homeless woman who lives in the public market. She would always visit either the Boys’ Dorm or the SSVM Convent for her meals and other needs. Recently, Teresa required more than just food as we discovered that her shelter was to be torn down to make room for changes in the town’s market.
The community of St. Francis Xavier saw it as an opportunity to reach out and help Christ in Teresa by providing her with proper housing. An old building on the Church property was transformed into a simple house for Teresa. We were helped in this endeavor by our lay leader, Uncle Gerry Mahase and his family, who assisted in building and painting the room. As nothing escapes the loving Providence of God, the inauguration was able to take place on November 19th, feast of Our Lady of Divine Providence, in the presence of M. Maria Anima Christi. We pray for Teresa and all of the needy of this City of Charity.
