The IVE has two missions in Guyana, the small English speaking country in South America. One of our missions is located in Charity and the other in Santa Rosa. This is the first of a series of news articles that will cover some of the activities that they conducted since last fall. Please support our missionary priests and sisters with your prayers as they continue to work in these challenging missions.
On October 30th, 2010, there was a PLA meeting at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Charity. The Parish Lay Leaders of the 9 Catholic communities of our parish were present. Parish Lay Assistants are a great help to reach out to all of our parishioners. They carry out a great job by going into the jungle to evangelize all the other members of the parish.
The meeting began with a doctrinal point in which the leaders were able to watch the video “What Every Catholic should know about the Bible.” Then, we were able to plan for the following months’ activities, and for the spreading of the devotion to the Divine Mercy, as well as other tasks. We pray for the fidelity of these lay leaders and for the fruits of their ministry within the Church.
November 6th was the first meeting held this year for the Catechists of St. Francis Xavier parish. Although each community has its own catechism program, these meetings help to bring about unity among the catechists as well as to ensure the level of material being given in the classes.
