Altar consecrated at Ss. Peter and Paul Church

Bishop John Quinn behind the new altarA new permanent altar was consecrated at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato, Minnesota with all solemnity on December 19th, 2010. Bishop John Quinn consecrated the altar during a Sunday mass concelebrated by the pastor Fr. Mariano Varela, IVE, the other priests of IVE community and Jesuits who served in the parish for many years.

The Church was decorated in a festive fashion with many banners from years past on display. The choir prepared a triumphant music for the occasion emphasizing the festivity of the occasion.

The new altar in the recently renovated sanctuaryThe altar itself was made from stone cut from a local quarry in Mankato and included a base from a free standing altar that was in use for many years after Vatican II. This consecration came after the parish finished the first phase of a sanctuary renovation. This renovation included placing of stone tiles in the sanctuary and putting in two new shrines to Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Divine Mercy image. In the new shrines they replaced two side altars and put in votive candles for the devotional of the faithful. We hope this new altar will give continual praise to Our Lord Jesus who comes to us through Mother Mary.
